Fish River Canyon: One of the largest canyons in the world.

Visit the spectacular Fish Canyon in Namibia and be prepared to view one of the biggest canyons on the planet. In a dimension of over 160 Km the maximum depth descends up to 550 meters, providing a stunning magnificent view. Take hiking trails along the rim to spot exciting features such as the various large rock formations and below the stunning Fish River. It is quite advisable to take vivid photos when the sky is orange either in the morning or evening when the view of the canyon is brightly illuminated. Regardless of whether the reader is an experienced hiker with a fancy for long-distant trails or an admirer of the outdoors, Fish River Canyon should become a must-see on his/her list as it offers an extraordinary and stunning experience of walking in the uniquely beautiful and powerful landscape created by the forces of nature on one of the grandest canyons of the planet.

Itinerary

This itinerary balances adventurous hiking, scenic views, and relaxation, making for a memorable visit to the awe-inspiring Fish River Canyon.

Day 1: Arrival and Canyon Viewpoints

Arrive in Namibia and transfer to Fish River Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world. Check-in at your lodge or camp near the canyon. After a relaxing lunch, head out to explore the main viewpoints such as Hell’s Bend and the Main Viewpoint, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the canyon’s dramatic landscape. Enjoy the sunset over the canyon before returning to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Hiking and Exploration

Begin the day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a hike along one of the well-marked trails. For those seeking adventure, tackle the famous Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail, a challenging route that descends into the canyon (note: permits and good physical condition are required). Alternatively, enjoy a shorter, guided hike along the rim to learn about the area’s geology, flora, and fauna. After the hike, return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, visit the Ai-Ais Hot Springs, located at the southern end of the canyon, for a rejuvenating soak. Return to the lodge for dinner and another overnight stay.

Day 3: Scenic Drive and Departure

After breakfast, take a scenic drive along the canyon rim, stopping at different viewpoints and photo spots. Learn about the history and formation of the canyon through informational plaques and guides. If time permits, visit the nearby historic town of Lüderitz or the abandoned diamond mining town of Kolmanskop on your way back. Check out from the lodge and transfer to your next destination or back to the airport for departure.
