Day 1: Arrival and Canyon Viewpoints
Arrive in Namibia and transfer to Fish River Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world. Check-in at your lodge or camp near the canyon. After a relaxing lunch, head out to explore the main viewpoints such as Hell’s Bend and the Main Viewpoint, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the canyon’s dramatic landscape. Enjoy the sunset over the canyon before returning to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Hiking and Exploration
Begin the day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a hike along one of the well-marked trails. For those seeking adventure, tackle the famous Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail, a challenging route that descends into the canyon (note: permits and good physical condition are required). Alternatively, enjoy a shorter, guided hike along the rim to learn about the area’s geology, flora, and fauna. After the hike, return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, visit the Ai-Ais Hot Springs, located at the southern end of the canyon, for a rejuvenating soak. Return to the lodge for dinner and another overnight stay.
Day 3: Scenic Drive and Departure
After breakfast, take a scenic drive along the canyon rim, stopping at different viewpoints and photo spots. Learn about the history and formation of the canyon through informational plaques and guides. If time permits, visit the nearby historic town of Lüderitz or the abandoned diamond mining town of Kolmanskop on your way back.
